Father Maximillian Kolbe - Priest, Martyr, & Saint
Father Kolbe School is named for this courageous Polish saint, born in 1894 and martyred in Auschwitz in 1941. Father Kolbe had an early love for math and science. However, he was drawn to the priesthood in the Order of St. Francis where he became a spiritual soldier, bringing his love for the Blessed Mother to thousands through the early use of technology - a printing press distributing a monthly magazine with a circulation of 230,000 as well as a radio station. When World War II started, the printing apostolate that Father Kolbe had started was a target of hatred from the Germans. Father Kolbe was arrested by the Gestapo and transferred to the concentration camp at Auschwitz, where he gave up his life so that a married man with children could live. Even at his death he gave courage to others and showed his love for the Blessed Mother. The miracles in his life, his love for the Blessed Mother, and his militant love for Catholicism make him a model for us today. Learn more at http://www.auschwitz.dk/Kolbe.htm
