Father Kolbe School

A Family of Learners

Facility…

Father Kolbe School is located in the heart of Canton, two blocks from the Canton waterfront near O'donnell Square, facing St. Casimir’s Church, only 6 minutes from both I-95 and I-83.

The building is well maintained. Each classroom is equipt with a TV & VCR, and all of our classroom and office areas are networked with Internet access. Our facility includes a fully networked computer lab with Internet access, two 24-laptop mobile computer labs on carts, student library, science/music/ Spanish room, and art room. In addition, we use the spacious parish gymnasium and cafeteria. After School Care is held both in the school and in the newly developed After School Care room in the St. Joseph Cupertino Center adjacent to the school.

Communication…

Father Kolbe School works in partnership with parents to assist students to reach their full potential. Thus communication between home and school is critical to student success, and Father Kolbe School fosters that in several ways. In August a School Calendar is provided to each family listing all events throughout the year for planning convenience. A Monday Folder is sent home each week with all graded work for the week, as well as any teacher or school notices. In addition, a Parent Newsletter is published twice a month to keep everyone informed about school activities. Parents can monitor their child's progress directly through PowerSchool Parent Access. (Parent training and access codes are provided at the October Home and School meeting.) Faculty and staff school e-mail addresses are provided to all families for their convenience. Progress Reports and Interims are each issued three times a year. Faculty members maintain contact with parents as necessary to promote student success.

PowerSchool

Father Kolbe School uses the electronic PowerSchool Student Information System, in compliance with the Archdiocese Division of Schools. Student progress using a variety of assessment strategies is tracked and reported electronically, in addition to traditional trimester progress reports. On-going Parent Access to student grades is provided to parents of students in grades 3-8 beginning in October, following the mandatory training session.

Class Size

The average class size at Father Kolbe School is 17 students, and student to teacher ratio is 17:1. Through small class sizes teachers work to maximize individual student success.

STAND Training

Father Kolbe School complies with Archdiocesan guidelines for the protection of students. Accordingly, all volunteers must be screened and have STAND training before being allowed to work with students or attend field trips. The 2 hr. STAND training is offered at the school on designated dates.
