Introduction
Father Kolbe School operates under the guidelines and policies of the Archdiocese of Baltimore Division of Schools. Our strong academic program is supported by a variety of co-curricular and extra curricular activities centered in a friendly community environment. Our graduates are successful and are prepared to accept the challenges of high school life.
Because of our location two blocks from the Canton Waterfront, Father Kolbe students have a unique opportunity to develop an appreciation of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, ecosystem, and habitats in an urban environment. Our strong efforts in this area earned us the 2004 Maryland Green School Award. The Green School Award Program recognizes and celebrates Maryland schools that use the school site, the community, and their curriculum and instruction to prepare students to understand and act on the current and future environmental challenges that face the state. It was a two-year effort of staff development, significant conservation and environmental studies for students at all levels, and community action.
A Century of Experience
Father Kolbe School, then called St. Casimir's, began as five spacious classrooms on the first floor of the newly built St. Casimir's Church in November of 1902. Established to meet the needs of the growing Polish community in the area, our first students received instruction in both Polish and English. Over the years the school has moved through several buildings, growing into its current location in 1954. Father Kolbe School remains a faith-filled center of learning in the Canton Community where its 102-year tradition of excellence continues generation after generation. Father Kolbe School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Mission
Father Kolbe School is committed to the development of the whole child in a nurturing environment with a strong sense of community. We promote academic excellence by providing a quality educational program that sets high academic standards and challenges students to use their God-given talents to reach their full potential. Through small class sizes and individual attention, effort is made to meet the diverse needs of students. Our program includes a wide variety of field trip and enrichment activities, because we believe that children learn by doing. In cooperation with Saint Casimir's parish, the school forges a partnership of faculty, family, parish, and community to foster the development of young people who will function responsibility within church and society.
